Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is a protocol stack developed by Bluetooth SIG and consists of two catergories Generic Access Profile (GAP) and the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT). BLE GAP devices are either in Observer or Broadcaster roles and how a BLE connection applies depends on the intended purpose. Any device in a Observer role will always scan or look for advertisements from devices in Broadcaster role
Battery operated beacons are usually in peripheral mode transmitting advertisement packets compliant with BLE Generic Attribute Profile (GAP)
Some points to follow to save mobile phone battery;
1. Avoid scan command in loops
2. Always set a timeout for your scan with correct Scan Window and Scan Interval
3. Stop scanning immediately as intended purpose of scanning or finding a device is fulfilled.
